About the Gili Islands:
The term “Gili Islands” refers to several small islands near Lombok, where “Gili” means “small island” in the Sasak language (native to Lombok). The most famous are Gili Trawangan (Gili T), Gili Air, and Gili Meno. They are a short sail from Lombok and surrounded by white sandy beaches and clear waters, perfect for snorkeling and diving. Transportation on the islands is limited to walking, biking, or horse-drawn carriages, preserving the tranquil atmosphere.
To reach the Gili Islands from Bali, you can take a speedboat, which typically takes about two hours. Alternatively, from Lombok’s Bangsal Port, there are frequent local boat services that take about 20 minutes. It’s recommended to stay at least two nights to fully enjoy the islands.
Gili Trawangan (Gili T):
The largest and most developed, known for its lively nightlife and range of activities, including diving tours and shopping.
Gili Air:
Ideal for those seeking a quieter nightlife and a sense of local community amidst romantic settings.
Gili Meno:
The smallest and least developed, perfect for honeymooners and those looking to disconnect. It’s known for its peaceful beaches and a turtle conservation sanctuary.
